ENC STEM alumni experience success after their participation in the program. Alumni change their life trajectories, becoming models not just for their high schools but also their communities. They also academically outpace their peers across the world-class University of North Carolina system.

We are proud to support students in advancing their education at one of the most prestigious high schools in America. Twelve ENC STEM alumni have gone on to attend NCSSM via their residential and online programs.

ENC STEM students develop deep commitment to education and social advocacy in their communities. Two ENC STEM alumni have gone on to return as educators in their home schools as Teach for America corps members.

Nearly half of ENC STEM alumni pursue STEM majors or careers, compared to about a third of UNC system students. Our alumni, who are primarily of underrepresented identities, are building the future of North Carolina’s diverse workforce.

HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Since 2013, we have provided nearly 200 hours of professional development training to teachers in Eastern North Carolina. ENC STEM, including sessions on inquiry-based instruction, growth mindset and stereotype threat, trauma-responsive classrooms and more.

Despite frequent teacher turnover statewide, ENC STEM instructors continue to work in education at high rates, multiplying ENC STEM’s impact to the thousands of students in North Carolina public schools taught by ENC STEM instructors during the regular school year.
